Floor Buffing Pads

Floor buffing pads are

essential tools for maintaining and restoring the shine of various hard floor types. They are specifically designed to be used with floor buffers, scrubbers, or polishers to achieve desired cleaning and polishing results.

Understanding floor buffing pads by colour

Floor buffing pads are commonly categorized by colour, which indicates their level of abrasiveness and intended application. Here’s a breakdown:

  • White: These are the softest and least abrasive pads, ideal for polishing and buffing clean, dry floors to a high gloss finish. They are gentle enough for use on delicate surfaces like waxed floors.
  • Tan/Beige: Slightly coarser than white pads, these are suitable for light cleaning and maintaining various floor types, particularly for high-speed polishing on waxed wood floors. They remove light soil and scuff marks while restoring a soft shine.
  • Red: These pads are a versatile option, offering a balance of cleaning and polishing capabilities. They are used for routine cleaning, spray buffing, and removing light scuff marks and dirt, creating a high gloss shine. Red pads are a good all-around choice and are often recommended for use with scrubber dryers.
  • Blue: Blue pads are well-suited for wet scrubbing or medium-duty spray cleaning. They effectively remove heavy marks and soils and can be used to prepare floors for recoating and burnishing.
  • Green: These pads are for deep cleaning and light stripping tasks. They can be used to “knock back” polish before re-coating.
  • Black/Brown: These are the most abrasive pads, designed for heavy-duty stripping, removing old finishes and built-up dirt. They are also effective at removing heavy soiling like concrete splashes. Black pads should be used with caution on polished floors as they can easily damage surfaces if left in one spot for too long.

Choosing the right floor buffing pad

The selection of the appropriate floor buffing pad depends on several factors:

  • Type of flooring: Consider the material of your floor (e.g., wood, tile, linoleum, stone) and its condition.
  • Desired outcome: Determine whether you need to strip, scrub, clean, or polish your floor.
  • Machine type and speed: The type of floor machine (buffer, scrubber dryer, polisher) and its speed (low, high, ultra-high) will influence pad selection.
  • Drive board compatibility: Ensure that the pads you choose are compatible with your machine’s drive board.
