Bonnet Mops

Bonnet mops for carpet cleaning

Bonnet mops are a type of cleaning pad used in conjunction with a rotary floor machine for surface cleaning of carpets.

How they work

  1. Vacuum first: Before using a bonnet mop, it is essential to thoroughly vacuum the carpet to remove loose dirt and debris.
  2. Pre-spot stains: Pre-treating any visible stains or high-traffic areas is crucial for a more even clean.
  3. Prepare the bonnet: Dampen the bonnet mop with a diluted carpet cleaning solution or Bonnet Buff, ensuring it’s not overly soaked.
  4. Clean the carpet: Operate the rotary floor machine equipped with the bonnet mop, overlapping passes to ensure complete coverage.
  5. Monitor the bonnet: Regularly check the bonnet mop’s condition and flip or replace it with a clean one when it becomes soiled.
  6. Advantages
  • Cost-effective:  Bonnet cleaning is a relatively inexpensive method for carpet maintenance.
  • Quick drying: Carpets cleaned with a bonnet mop typically dry quickly, often within 30 minutes.
  • Suitable for high traffic areas: Bonnet mops are particularly effective for cleaning low profile, high-density carpets in heavy traffic areas between deep cleans.

Disadvantages

  • Surface-level cleaning: Bonnet cleaning primarily addresses surface-level dirt and may not remove deep-seated stains or bacteria embedded in the carpet fibres.
  • Not suitable for all carpets: Bonnet cleaning may cause damage or pile distortion on some types of carpets, especially cut-pile carpets.
  • May void carpet warranties:  Some carpet and fibre manufacturers recommend against using the bonnet method, and using it may void your carpet’s warranty.

Combining cleaning methods

For a more comprehensive clean, it’s possible to combine bonnet cleaning with other methods like steam extraction.
